Quiet Explosions - Healing the brain

WINNER OF THE LILAC AWARD - SPIFF International Film Festival

Special Forces Green Beret, Andrew Marr, returned from his third deployment, a quietly broken man. The explosives expert suffered a multitude of concussions while detonating hundreds of blasts in Afghanistan.

Unable to cope with his illness, he fell into a spiral of drug and alcohol abuse; even contemplating suicide at one point. When it was nearly too late, he met Neuroendocrinologist Dr. Mark L. Gordon, who properly diagnosed his condition as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Since then, Gordon has been helping veterans impacted by Post Traumatic Syndrome (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) through the Warrior Angels Foundation founded by Adam and Andrew Marr and supported by podcast personality Joe Rogan.

Professional athletes Mark Rypien(Washington Redskins Super Bowl XXVI MVP) and Anthony Davis (running back USC, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), candidly share their methods of coping with TBI and PTS, which they experienced from repetitive blows to the brain.

Renowned big wave surfer Shawn Dollar and Ben Driebergen, a Marine veteran and winner of CBS's 35th "Survivor" season, reveal their struggles toward brain health. A former gymnast, a 9/11 first responder and the victim of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) offer insights into their healing process from the disease which is estimated to have impacted 80 million people in the past 40 years.

Additional hope and insightful methods are offered from experts Dr. Daniel G. Amen, Dr. Scott Sherr, and Dr. Robert Sammons in this growing field.

Dr. Thacker Can Help

Dr. Thacker Partners with Leading TBI Expert Dr. Mark Gordon & Gets Results

Sixty six percent (66%) of those who need TBI help fail to make it into the medical system. Those that do are failed by the system due to limiting diagnoses and treatment to antiquated superficial markers of injury instead of looking deeper into the new science of TBI.

We can make a difference in treating TBI and return patients to marked improvement in quality of life.

In the civilian and military populations, laboratory assessment for hormonal disruption is infrequently performed over the course of the individual’s rehabilitation for their physical trauma. An initial or baseline level is rarely obtained, thereby missing the 56% of those injured with TBI that do have one or more hormonal deficiencies (insufficiencies) which may compound the physical and psychological complications of TBI and interfere with rehabilitation.

Many patients succumb to the secondary psychological consequences of hormonal deficiencies precipitated by TBI that lead to their depression and ultimate suicides.

Dr. Thacker utilizes a Treatment Protocol specific to each individual and improves symptoms and underlying conditions to ultimately heal the brain.

~ 154 Veterans Commit Suicide Each Week ~

Individuals exposed to a blast frequently manifest loss of memory for events before and after the explosion; confusion; headache, impaired sense of reality, and reduced decision-making ability.

Patients with brain injuries acquired in explosions often develop sudden, unexpected brain swelling and cerebral vasospasm despite continuous monitoring.

The first symptoms of Blast-Induced Neuro Trauma (BINT) may occur months or even years after the initial event, and are therefore categorized as secondary brain injuries. Broad variety of symptoms include:

  • Weight loss
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Headache
  • Problems in memory, speech, and balance

These changes are often debilitating, interfering with daily activities. Because BINT in blast victims is underestimated, valuable time is often lost for preventive therapy and /or timely rehabilitation.

Brain Injury

Dr. Thacker, M.D. Provides a Treatment Protocol that can dramatically improve TBI Patients

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 2 million people will suffer a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) each year.

  • People who have undergone prolonged high tense situations (i.e., combat)

  • Those who have undergone long and multiple surgeries (i.e., open heart surgeries)

  • Those who have sustained Head Trauma (motor vehicle accidents, sports, etc.) . These can include Roller Skates, Bicycling, Skiing, Football, Basketball, Soccer, Rugby, etc.
