Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS)

An estimated 10–15% of Americans experience some form of myofascial pain. At Huntsville Pain Management, we begin every treatment journey with a comprehensive screening by a qualified practitioner to ensure that patients receive a personalized care plan and that any urgent medical concerns are promptly identified.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) is a chronic pain condition involving muscle tightness and trigger points — highly sensitive spots that can refer pain to other areas of the body. While MPS can affect any region, it most often appears in the neck, shoulders, and back.

The condition is marked by limited mobility, tender knots in the muscles, and discomfort that can worsen with time. Possible contributing factors may include stress, overuse, trauma, and in some cases, viral infections such as Epstein-Barr.

Many patients report noticeable pain relief within the first week of treatment.

Common Symptoms of Myofascial Pain:

  • Deep, persistent aching in a specific muscle
  • Tender nodules or knots in the muscle tissue
  • Pain that increases or spreads with pressure
  • Difficulty sleeping due to chronic discomfort
  • Limited range of motion in the affected area
  • Muscle weakness or stiffness near the trigger point
